What is "Saint-Aube" ?

"Saint-Aube" is the Voluntary Association that was established in 1995 by members who love painting art. This Association was lead and taught by Mr. Saburo Nakayama who used to be a Director of the famous Art Association "NIKA-KAI" until he passed away in 2009.

Around 40 members of this group are trying to make progress in their drawing through attending at its "croquis" assemblies for two times a month and to create works in each preferable media, those are oil-paintings, Japanese-style paintings (Nihon-Ga), water-paintings, Ink & wash paintings and/or Pastel paintings. Those created art works may be ready to present at the Exposition of "Saint-Aube" held in Ginza once a year.

Where "Saint-Aube" comes from ?

"Saint-Aube" is pronounced as "san-oubu" in Japanese. "Aube" means dawn in French and "Saint" is told that the phonetic sound "san" came from the second name of Mr. Nakayama. However Mr. Nakai, ex-member of the group, indicated that "Saint" would be used to indicate some image and not to indicate its strict meaning.

Mr. Nakai noted that Mr. Saburo Nakayama might have thought and given a suitable name to the group so that all the members of "Saint-Aube" could be intimate to the paintings together and should present their works in Ginza under the most splendid name of the group.
